Marieke Pauwels

One year later and again preparing an art history class about ceramics. At the moment I am reading about the work of Belgian ceramist Marieke Pauwels.
This work (Parnassus) remains my favorite. The mountain on the turntable (the turntable of her father who is also a ceramist). And that landscape on the wall in
combination with that wallpaper, that also becomes a landscape.
Maybe I also like it because you normally do not make sculptures on a turntable but functional pots.

This week we saw two expositions in bozar Brussels:
Jeff wall en Beyond the document.
The two pictures are from the Belgian Photographer Nick Hannes
I like his work.

Scotland: casks for the whisky

Of course we were also there for the single malt whisky. We visited several distilleries. But we were most impressed by a place we discovered purely by accident. In this place they make the casks for the spirit. You could see the coopers at work in the workplace and we got a lot of information about the making of.

Scotland: bad weather

But for me, better than tropical heat: mist, a lot of rain and cold temperatures.

Tree drawings

From our garden, we look at a lot of trees, especially weeping willows, and we are often very fascinated by the movements and noise they make when it is windy.

Timber!

Back home from the Netherlands. Learning to make spoons at such a place in the woods: it was just brilliant!
We made them out of birch-wood. The most difficult part is learning to use the tools and in the beginning it is better to be careful because everything is razor-sharp. So I took it slow.
That is why I still have to finish some of the spoons. I hope I find the time to do that soon.
But my first spoon is ready and I am a bit proud of that first tiny creation.

Something old, something new

Hier kan je nog wat meer zien van het tapijt, aangepakt door Heleen Klopper en haar woolfiller. Ooit ontdekt via dit bericht op de blog van Ilse Acke.

Gespot: breiwerk

Eergisteren kwam ik deze tegen op het internet in het archief van Rosa Pomar . Ik weet niet zeker wat het zijn (proeven? mutsen?...), maar de motiefjes vind ik alvast heel plezant.
En verder zag ik zondag een schoon 'debardeurke' op een muur in de Brusselse Marollen. Bizar die muur, zo volgeplakt met oude familiekiekjes.

Nieuwe foto's

Deze nieuwe dekentjes wou ik persé nog af voor de Invasie van Kortrijk. En 't is gelukt.
En er was ook nog tijd voor een nieuwe reeks foto's. (fotografie: caromontha)
Nu is het selecteren en kiezen. Ik weet nog steeds niet welke foto's ik uit deze reeks zal kiezen voor mijn website , want twee à drie foto's is voldoende. Wat denken jullie?
Op de Invasie ga ik deze foto's presenteren in mijn zakjes.
Binnenkort toon ik nog twee andere foto's voor de website.

Het atelier van Lauren Manoogian

Lauren Manoogian maakt onder andere breiwerk en juwelen.
Ik vond deze sfeervolle foto's van haar atelier ooit via via bij Elle (daar zijn nog meer foto's te zien).
En t' is heel herkenbaar: een verzameling garens, de breimachine met werktuigen, veel stalen, inspiratiebronnen...
Kortweg: leuk om naar te kijken,
omdat er iets te zien is van het boeiende proces & de zoektocht van de ontwerpster.
Om die reden vond ik deze post bij at-swim two birds ook heel leuk. Vergeet zeker niet naar de geit te zien, want die maakt het voor mij volledig compleet!

Nog meer zakjes.
Ik weet het: velen kennen dit werk al, maar ik blijf ze zo goed vinden!
